Al Lubkowski is the Tour Operator and builder of the whaling canoe "Qaanas" depicted as the support vessel in Blackfish's kayak tours. He is especially knowledgeable about West Coast native history, marine mammals and the unique ecology of the kelp environment. Al is an experienced sailor, canoeist, kayaker and navigator, with blue water experience gained from sailing in Atlantic and coastal waters from Montreal to the Caribbean. His paddling experience is equally varied: including jungle rivers, Arctic waters and job exploring canoe routes for the Manitoba Parks Government (Atikaki Wilderness Area).

Al began his tour - guiding career taking adventurers on jungle and reef-sailing tours he organized in and around Belize, Central America. Al’s professional background as a regional planner has given him added insights into the cultural and physical changes affecting the islands and waters of our BC coast. And what did Al and his partner Sue do on their recent winter holidays? They paddled the Florida Everglades in their newly acquired Klepper kayak foldboat. This winter, Al's love of sailing and adventure had him crewing on a 55 foot ketch off the Australian coast.

This year he wll be using his CYA sailing instructor's certificate to offer "cruise and learn" sailing programs featuring the new Beneteau 351 sail boat he has just acquired.

Eduardo Mora Gutierrez is an experienced naturalist and world traveler, having recently come here from his native country of Costa Rica to continue with his guiding career. Eduardo’s wide ranging professional guiding activities include river and sea kayaking, and wild rivers rafting throughout North and Central America as well as Spain (RIALP Adventure Sport).

Fortunately for us, one of Eduardo's interests is bird watching. The keen eyes, telescope and knowledge of birds that he brings to his guided tours will certainly add enjoyment if not fulfillment to your kayaking venture with us. Eduardo’s safety credentials include First Aid, and Rescue 3 International.

Marco Kahlil's love and fascination for the sea is reflected in the more than 20 boats he has owned and operated around Victoria and Vancouver Island. These boats range from a 13 foot runabout and 16 foot kayak, to a 41 foot life- saving boat (which Marco operates for the Canadian Coast Guard). In addition to the wide range of marine skills required for this life-saving job (which would take the good part of this page to list),

Marco is also a marine naturalist and coastal history buff. In his spare time Marco can usually be found cruising around Oak Bay in his sail boat, fixing and fine tuning his sailboat so that it will meet whatever challenges the ocean may throw at him. If you sail or kayak with Marco, beware of becoming infected by his passion for the sea and its critters. Not content to see what marvels lie over the horizon, Marco is a proficient diver, intent on seeing what lurks under his ocean horizon as well.

Reece Buchanan, one is an avid naturalist and adventurer, seldom happier when in his element: the forest and oceans around Vancouver Island, and happiest with paddle or surf board in hand. On a typical weekend you will find him either paddling, hiking, surfing, or fly fishing. Fortunately for Blackfish he is happiest when sharing some of his many backcountry and sports skills with others.
