We pride ourselves as being wilderness escape artists, who despite our graying hair, continue to love what we do - which is to explore by canoe and by kayak the many unspoiled and tranquil places which still constitute much of our B.C West Coast heritage. This year w
e have gone back to our "roots" adding sailing to our list of adventures. We have been in the guiding business for over 14 years.. Some of this time has been spent conducting jungle and reef tours in Belize, Central America.
On our vacations, Sue and I like to do exploratory paddling trips abroad . For a fun story on our recent paddle to the Everglades, go to our Links Page
Focus & Philosophy:
Blackfish Wilderness Expeditions is a long-standing member of Tourism Victoria. We are also proud members of Earth Foot, a society dedicated to low-im
pact eco-tours- tour operations which are small in scale, owner-operated, locally produced, and culturally sensitive to the needs of locals. We are also in the business of making friends, rather than customers. Mosts of our tours are customized.
Our focus is soft adventure and the exploration of wild places by kayak and canoe.
Our philosophy is to teach new skills, and to impart knowledge which will lead to a greater sense of awareness and respect for conserving our unique marine environment,
We seek to expand the wilderness horizons and consciences of fellow adventurers, wherever these trails may lead. Our underlying aim is to have fun, to make new friends and to develop the camaraderie and team work that only wild places and the challenge of broad ocean horizons can elicit.
Our Marine Tours will introduce you to the world of Killer Whales, sea lions, eagles, cormorants and
all manner of marine birds. Our island explorations will introduce you to wild flowers, landscapes, wildlife. and First Nations artifacts that are unique to Canada if not the world. Our guides are primarily chosen for their ability to impart this knowledge.
We operate year-around from our base, Victoria, B.C. on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. This is a convenient jumping off spot for day as well as overnight tours to some of the most beautiful islands and campsites to be found in the Canadian Gulf Islands. We are also within 2 hours drive of the West Coast Life Life Saving and Juan de Fuca Trails - and the spectacular kayak surfing beaches enroute to this rainforest.
Favourite tours: This year we have fallen in love with a new tour of the West Coast (Port Renfrew) that combines rain forest treking, with river-running and ocean camping. The rugged islands of Desolation Sound, a wilderness area located next to the Coast Mountains is another favourite of ours. But not surprisingly, often great wilderness kayaking and camping lie unsuspectingly in one's "back yard". And this describes what many of us have come to realize about the Discovery-Chatham islands, a marine park so close to Victoria, and yet so far..
Whale Watching: If you are planning a visit to Victoria, and would like to consider a rather novel day adventure to this marine park, which includes kayaki
ng , island hiking, and the only Combination Whale Watching and Kayaking tour to be offered on Vancouver Island , Click!

We don't always have this much fun, but we try! The "Captain" (the guy who built the Canoe and steers this tour operation) is the gray-haired chap in the middle.
